Ceramics & Porcelain
Marked with the "JFM" (for ceramics) or "Mueller" (for porcelain) backstamp this is our most exclusive range of bespoke products.
Ceramics
Clay is an extremely malleable natural resource that can be moulded in almost any shape. This way clay can be used to create a bas-relief (a kind of low-level sculpture), a flower pot or even items of domestic use. All these can be adorned with suitable heraldic motif or be heraldic designs in themselves. Fired at over a thousand degrees Celsius these objects can then be glazed in a variety of techniques bringing colour to the creation. These are then fired a second time, often at an even higher temperature, meaning they are safe for use in connection with food. If hung outside, with just a little care, a ceramic coat of arms or crest can withstand the elements for many generations, sometimes thousands of years, meaning they are a more reasonable option than stone carving.
Porcelain
Our china is of the ‘fine bone’ and ‘English’ variety. That means it is manufactured and decorated in England by hand. We have curated a selection of so-called whiteware (plain white china) in a variety of shapes and sizes which can be decorated. We can supply other shapes, but these may have to be imported from outside the United Kingdom. Usually the decoration is a simple line around the rim to complement a transfer-printed crest or coat of arms. This process means relatively small batches can be made at affordable prices. The image we always prepare beforehand so it looks best when transferred and fired. We keep our blues light and muted usually as it looks best on china. Please note: The resulting product is not dishwasher safe. We highly recommend that it be washed by hand for longevity of the quality of the design. Things with a golden rim naturally cannot be put in a microwave.
